For more than thirty years, Sandra Charlap has plumbed her surroundings, experiences, and dreams to share her singular world view through painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, mosaics, micro-beading, jewelry, and other media.

 

Her work has been included in many group shows, most recently in the Newark Arts Festival 2022 and 2023 hosted by the Newark Museum of Art, as well as solo shows at the Green Door gallery in Millburn and the former Gas Gallery in Maplewood, a two-woman show with Jocelyn Fine at the 1978 Arts center in Maplewood. An exhibitor in a group show—“Emerge”—at the Akwaaba Gallery in Newark, one of 60 international artists at the NG Art creative residency gallery show “A Home Away from Home” in Provence, France, “Ban this!,” a group show benefiting the ACLU drag defense fund at the 1978 Arts center in Maplewood, “Essex Exposed” at the Pierro Gallery in South Orange, the opening exhibit at the Museum of Beadwork, Portland, Maine, and a group show at the Wae Center of Livingston. Her work appears in many private collections both in the U.S. and internationally.

 

Sandra launched her career when she founded Sandra Levine Ceramics, designing and creating custom tabletop ceramics for noted department stores including Barney's, Henri Bendel, Neiman Marcus, and ABC Carpet and Home. Her fanciful pieces have been featured in numerous national magazines including Metropolitan Home, Bon Appetit, Gourmet, New York Magazine, Studios, Art Direction, and The New York Times.

 

Sandra attended Parsons School of Design, where she earned a degree in illustration, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in fine art with a minor in printmaking from Montclair State University.
